Kicking for Grassroots

Founded by former England international and Leeds Rhinos star Luke Gale, Kicking For Grassroots CIC is a not-for-profit organisation using the power of sport to inspire and empower young people.

We tackle social challenges, build confidence, and create opportunities for young people to reach their full potential — on and off the field.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Kicking For Grassroots CIC was launched in 2018 by professional rugby league player Luke Gale, a former Man of Steel winner and Challenge Cup champion, to give back to the community that supported him throughout his career.

Luke’s journey from grassroots rugby to the top level of the sport inspired him to help others follow their dreams. Through KFG, he’s creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, confidence, and resilience through sport, education, and community engagement.

Meet Luke Gale

Luke Gale is a former English professional rugby league footballer who played as a scrum-half or stand-off for the Leeds Rhinos in the Betfred Super League and for England at international level.

A respected leader on and off the field, Luke was named ‘Man of Steel’ in 2007 and fulfilled a childhood dream in 2020, leading Leeds Rhinos to Challenge Cup victory at Wembley with a dramatic late drop goal.

In 2018, Luke founded Kicking For Grassroots CIC to use his platform to make a difference — helping young people find confidence, connection, and opportunity through sport.

I’ve been lucky to live my dream through rugby, now it’s about helping others find theirs.

HAF Camps

Our fantastic holiday clubs provide delicious food and amazing activities for school aged children who are eligible for income-related free school meals. The best bit is that we receive funding from the Department for Education to run these clubs, so there is no cost to the parents/ carers for their children and young people to attend.

Sign up now to the Christmas Camp!

The HAF camp is for 4-14 year olds who are on FREE school meals, funded by healthy holidays.

40 spaces available per day, 4 days in total.

Our Work

Free Community Sports Sessions

Every Thursday, Kicking For Grassroots hosts free sports sessions for boys and girls aged 9–14 at Leeds Corinthians (LS10 4AX) from 6:00–8:00PM. Giving local kids a chance to get active, learn teamwork, and build friendships.

Annual Rugby Summer Festival

Our highlight of the year, the KFG Rugby Summer Festival, celebrates sport, inclusion, and community spirit. With fun matches, skills challenges, and guest appearances, it’s a day to remember for families and aspiring young players.

KFG bridges the gap between education and employment by connecting young people with real-world opportunities.

From mentoring and workshops to community projects, we help raise aspirations and equip the next generation with the tools to succeed.
